  1. Compost Happens, Water-Wise and Rain Barrel Workshop-** Non-Hillsborough County Residents**

    This registration site is for residents living outside of Hillsborough County ONLY. If you live in Hillsborough County, please go to 2011 Compost Happens, Water-Wise and Rain Barrel Workshop (Hillsborough County Residents ) to register for these workshops. 8:30 AM Compost Happens-learn to turn trash to treasure. You'll receive a free compost bin and thermometer too 9:30 AM Water-Wise- teach you how you can have a healthy and attractive lawn and landscape while conserving water. 10:30 AM Rain Barrels-useful for collecting rainwater for irrigation while reducing erosion and stormwater runoff and how to make your own barrel using a 55-gallon plastic food-grade drum.

  3. Home Canning - Canning Pickles and Fruit,

    September 8, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM @ 5339 County Road 579

    Make your own pickles. Can fruit at home. If you're interested, this is the class for you. You'll see both processes, step by step. You'll be at the stove, checking out the pots. You'll learn: what's safe, what's not, and why. - What equipment and ingredients you need. - What the best resources and recipes are. - How to choose the best produce. - How to store your products. There will be time for all your questions! We'll have the new USDA Guide to Home Canning available for sale. You will also get recipes and directions to take home. The class is free, but we will ask for a $5 donation to cover the cost of supplies. The actual products we prepare will depend on the best produce available at the time of the class. Location is .5 mi south of Exit 10 from I-4, east of Tampa.

  5. Home Canning - Preserve Vegetables, Meats and Seafood

    Can your own vegetables at home. Can meats, poultry or seafood too. If you're interested, this is the class for you. You'll see the process of canning vegetables, step by step. We'll show canning carrots because it takes less time, and discuss how to can meat or seafood too. You'll be at the stove, checking out the canner. You'll learn: what's safe, what's not, and why. - What equipment and ingredients you need. - How different pressure canners operate. - What the best resources and recipes are. - How to choose the best produce. - How to store your products. There will be time for all your questions! If you have a dial canner, we can test the dial for you. We have the new USDA Guide to Home Canning available for sale. You will also get recipes and directions to take home. The class is free, but we will ask for a $5 donation at the door to cover the cost of supplies.
