The 17th Annual Alzheimer's Disease Community Workshop, held on September 14, was a great success. This year's theme was "Alzheimer's Training for First Responders: Safety and Emergency Response." Aging Services partnered with the Johnnie B. Byrd, Sr. Alzheimer's Center & Research Institute and the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Criminal Justice Services to present the conference. Safety personnel, first responders, professionals in the aging network and caregivers from across the bay area attended. The materials presented helped disseminate the basic knowledge and skills necessary to appropriately handle situations dealing with persons with Alzheimer's disease. This training was the first of its kind for this area. This training is mandatory for all first responders in Virginia.
