Over 500 seniors attended the Senior Spring Fling Painting and Craft Festival on May 22, at the All People's Life Center. Over a dozen artists exhibited their original artworks, including water color, oil, charcoal and other mediums. Carol Foster's "Peekaboo Cat" won Best in Show and a $100 prize. The two Award of Excellence winners, Jacqueline Clark and Pat Herzberg, each won a $50 prize. Louise Anders, Virginia Laudano, and Mel Robinson each received an Honorable Mention and a $25 prize.
This was the first year there was also a Craft Festival and many afghans and other needlework pieces sold quickly. Aging Services Nutrition Sites created beautiful murals that decorated the walls, adding to the tropical flavor of the event. Seniors sipped non-alcoholic daiquiris and piña coladas from the tiki bar while admiring the artwork. There was a limbo contest and live music was sponsored by the Senior Connection and the Arts Council of Hillsborough County.
Thanks to Heather Spooner, Assistant Curator of Education, Tampa Museum of Art, for participating as Painting Festival Judge and Lynn Norton, Director of Education, Arts Council of Hillsborough County for participating as Crafts Festival Judge.
