Mission Statement

What is the Alliance?

    The Alliance is a community coalition which the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioners adopted on December 2, 1994 as its official advisory group.

What is the purpose of the Alliance?

    The purpose of the Alliance is to improve the quality of life for all citizens with disabilities.

    The Alliance is designed to:

    • Make the community more aware of the needs of citizens with disabilities.
    • Advocate for full access to services and facilities.
    • Serve as liaison between the disabled community, governmental entities, organizations, and the business community.

Who can be a member of the Alliance?

    Membership is open to persons who express an interest in furthering the purpose of the Alliance.

What are some of the issues addressed by the Alliance?

    The Alliance discusses and responds to a variety of issues affecting person with disabilities and their families.

    • Accessibility issues and universal design.
    • Transportation issues affecting people who are transportation dependent.
    • Crime and safety programs for persons with disabilities.
    • Appointments of citizens with disabilities to Hillsborough County Boards and Councils.
    • Education and training programs for the community.
    • Inclusion of a cable channel focusing on needs of people with disabilities and their families.
    • Employment issues.
    • Housing concerns.

When and where is the Alliance?

    The Alliance meets on the 4th Wednesday of each month at 2 P.M. at various locations around the county.
