Selected Florida Animal Related Laws

The Department of Animal Services investigates allegations of violations of State Statutes related to animals. The following commonly enforced statutes are presented to increase awareness of these laws. If you suspect that an animal has been abused, neglected, or cruelly treated, call Hillsborough County Animal Services. We will send an officer to investigate the complaint and determine a course of action to correct the problem. Cases of intentional cruelty may result in civil citations being issued, or may be turned over to the State Attorney's Office for prosecution. Persons convicted of animal cruelty face a fine from $5,000 to $10,000, up to five years in jail, or both. You may contact Animal Services by calling (813) 744-5660.
