“We the People” is the new slogan chosen by the late Phyllis Busansky for the Supervisor of Elections office and it was also the hallmark of everything she did. Words most often used to describe her brilliant career as a public servant were: ethical, integrity, inspiration, champion, and transparency.

The We the People Award

The Hillsborough County Commissioners created the We the People Award in July 2009 to honor the late Supervisor of Elections and former County Commissioner Phyllis Busansky to recognize residents, community leaders and groups who demonstrate exceptional ethical behavior, serve as an inspiration and champion to bring government and people together for meaningful democracy to prosper. This award is presented during a County Commission Regular Meeting and only when individuals or groups merit this prestigious recognition.

Eligibility

• Any resident, community leader (including elected officials) or group in Hillsborough County who has/have demonstrated ethical, inspirational and championing efforts to improve citizen ownership of their government.
• Resident, community leader or group must have exemplified efforts in bringing government and people together for the betterment of the County and its citizens.
  

Nomination Procedures

Obtain nomination form ( PDF, 24KB ) - Once a nomination is received, it will be provided to County Commissioners for consideration in the manner in which they prescribe.
