What is Bullying? |
"Bullying" means systematically and chronically inflicting physical hurt or psychological distress on one or more students, employees or visitors. It is further defined as unwanted and repeated written, verbal, or physical behavior, including any threatening, insulting or dehumanizing gestures by a student or adult that is severe or pervasive enough to create an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment; cause discomfort or humiliation. |

Three Types of Bullying
1. Physical bullying
- Kicking, punching, shoving, tripping and other acts that hurt people physically.
- Forcing someone to hurt another person.
- Getting certain people to "gang up" on others .
- Damaging or stealing someone’s belongings .
- Unwanted sexual touching.
2. Verbal bullying
- Name calling or threats.
- Spreading bad rumors about people.
- Teasing people in a mean way.
- Making negative references to one's culture, ethnicity, race, religion, gender, or sexual orientation.
- Unwanted sexual comments.
3. Cyberbullying
- Using technology such as email, texts, Instant Messaging and mobile phones to send insults or threats.
- Spreading hateful comments about a person through e-mail, instant messaging or postings on Web sites and online diaries.
- Stealing passwords and sending out threatening e-mails or instant messages using an assumed identity.
- Posting nasty pictures or messages or video clips about others in blogs or on Web sites.
