The Hillsborough County Child Care Licensing Program requires that new owners/operators attend
free child care facility consultation classes. The classes are in two sessions and are
offered on the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. The classes begin promptly at 8:30 a.m.
until 12:00 p.m.. People will not be admitted once the class begins. To register for the class call 272-6487.
-
Contact the zoning department and see if you are allowed a child care facility on your potential
site. If the site is not commercially zoned, you will need a zoning review for a change of use.
-
At the time of your initial inspection, please submit the following to the Senior Inspector:
-
Child Care
Center Application ( PDF, 18Kb ),
which can be printed out from this website;
- legal/letter size floor plan showing square footage
of each room, designation of each room (infants, toddler, preschool, after school), kitchen,
office, sinks and toilets, etc.;
- a legal/letter size outside playground design with total
square footage;
- two reference letters for applicant from persons who have known the applicant
2 years or more.
-
The license fee for center is based on the capacity of the center. The fee is
a minimum of $50 for the first 10 children and $1.25 for each child over ten.
-
When all requirements are met, you will be issued a license from our office. You may not take
children in care until you have received this license.
