Before you call in a complaint about a center or family child care home, share your concern with the center director or family child care home provider. Often open, positive communication can resolve a small problem before it becomes a big problem. The brochures "Know Your Child's Child Care Center" and "Know Your Child's Family Child Care Home," which are available through the Child Care Licensing Office, can provide you with information on Hillsborough County's licensing rules.

However, if your concerns/complaints can't be resolved by talking with the center director or home provider, you may want to call the Hillsborough County Child Care Licensing Program and file a complaint.

• Step 1 - Call the child care licensing office at 272-6487 and ask for the licensing inspector who is currently working intake. You may give your name or file the complaint anonymously.



• Step 2 - A licensing inspector will speak with you about your concerns/complaints. Be as specific as you can, including the dates, time of the problem, and the ages of children involved. The inspector will determine if the problems you are describing are violations of County Statute and can be investigated.



• Step 3 - All complaints will be investigated within 14 days. You may request a call back after the investigation is complete.
