Water Resources Team Administrator Named

County Administrator Dan Kleman has announced that T. Barton Weiss has accepted the position as Water Resources Team Administrator. He will join the County on May 6.

Serving in his current position as senior project manager of Resource Conservation & Development for the Southwest Florida Water Management District since 1990, Weiss is responsible for working with Tampa Bay Water, the area’s wholesale water supplier, and managing projects such as the desalination plant, aquifer storage and recovery, as well as supervising contracts, budgets, consultants, and personnel.

“My goal is to have oversight over projects to ensure that water is developed in an environmentally and sustainable manner,” said Weiss. “This county gives me a great opportunity with the multi-million dollar projects we have coming on line.”

Weiss, 44, holds a Masters of Business Administration from St. Leo College, a bachelor of science from Corpus Christi State University in Texas, and a bachelors of arts in history from Erskine College in South Carolina.

“We’re very pleased to have accomplished our search for an administrator so quickly,” said Tony Shoemaker, assistant county administrator. “He is knowledgeable and understands our water issues, as well as knowing all the players – including the people on the Water Team.”

The Water Resources Team is charged by the Board of County Commissioners to address water supply and natural resource protection issues, as they relate to projects proposed or operated in Hillsborough County by Tampa Bay Water.
