Hillsborough County Fleet Management has earned another prestigious recognition. Government Fleet Magazine has named the County's Fleet Management as the number one public sector fleet department in North America for 2008. The department is featured as the cover story in the November issue of the national magazine.
In 2007, Fleet Management was ranked number 91 out of the top 100 Best fleets in the country, and improved to number one in just a year. For the past two fiscal years, the Fleet Department has attained an overall customer satisfaction rating of 97 percent.
The 100 Best fleets is an awards program recognizing fleet management at its very best as identified from peers, vendors, national awards and recognitions, and continuous improvements. Hillsborough County was selected as the best in North America from 760 applications.
Criteria for winning the recognition included accountability; technology implementation; competitive pricing; and quick and efficient turnaround. The competition pointed out Fleet Management's Pit Stop Program implemented in the last year at all five of its service facilities for quick fixes. The program minimizes downtime and enables customers to get small repairs done with no lines and no waiting.
Fleet Management Director Sharon Subadan said, "Because of open, honest and regular communication, even at a time when the County is experiencing great financial hardship, employees at Fleet have a continual 'can do' attitude, and morale remains high."
Last year, Fleet received the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Blue Seal of Excellence. To receive the ASE honor, fleet garages must have at least 75 percent of their technicians performing diagnosis and repairs be ASE certified, and at least one technician must be ASE certified in each area of service offered.
Hillsborough County's Department of Fleet Management maintains more than 4,200 vehicles or motor equipment including hybrid vehicles, and vehicles that can run on Ethanol-85 as well as bio-diesel.
