Fireworks Not Allowed in County Parks
|
| |
|
Fireworks are an exciting part of the July 4th celebration, but the colorful fun can turn into a dangerous situation quickly. With thousands of citizens planning to celebrate outdoors at Hillsborough County's parks, the Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department reminds everyone that all types of fireworks and explosives are banned at these County owned facilities.
Park Ordinance 08-17 prohibits fireworks and explosives for public safety reasons. Personal injury or wildfire could easily occur. Fire is a major concern because the parks are natural areas that contain an abundance of native vegetation that could easily ignite and cause damage to the park and surrounding areas.
It only takes a spark to start a wildfire and according to the Florida Department of Forestry, 23 wildfires were caused by fireworks since July 4, 2008, burning 164 acres.
Enjoy the holiday weekend while picnicking, fishing, hiking, biking and camping at Hillsborough County parks. Visit www.hillsboroughcounty.org/parks to find parks or activities that meet your outdoor recreational needs or call (813) 635-3500 for information.
