Tax Collector

Boat (Vessel) Registrations

The County Tax Collector, acting as agent for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, registers vessels and processes title applications. The office collects the sales tax on the title transactions for the Florida Department of Revenue. All vessel registrations expire June 30 of each year.

Fishing & Hunting Licenses

The Tax Collector, acting as agent for the Florida Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission and for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, issues freshwater and saltwater fishing licenses, hunting licenses, and related permits in the state. The licenses are valid for 12 months from date of issuance. Short-term, annual and 5-year licenses and permits may be purchased via the state's automated telephone service by calling 1-888-347-4356. (There is a $3.95 service charge for using the automated telephone program.) Persons under 15 years of age or 65 and over are exempt from fishing license requirements.

Businesses located in Hillsborough County, whether inside or outside a municipality, are required to obtain a County Occupational License from the County Tax Collector. Licenses are renewable during August of each year and expire September 30 of the following year; half-year licenses can be obtained from April 1. License fees vary, depending on the type of business and other factors. Businesses located within a municipality require a city license as well as a County license.

The division provides complete permitting services from the application, review and issuance stages of site and structural permits, through inspections and certificates of occupancy. Reviews cover seven major areas for the construction industry: building, electrical, gas, mechanical, and plumbing disciplines; land use; and zoning regulations. Site review areas also include stormwater, transportation, phosphate mining, land excavation, concurrency, water and wastewater utilities, land alteration and landscaping. The division makes field inspections to ensure compliance with building codes, land development codes, and various regulations. The division also investigates complaints against individuals for licensed, unlicensed, and homeowner construction activity for compliance with Hillsborough County Ordinances and Building Codes.

Clerk of the Circuit Court

Home Solicitation Permits

The Clerk of the Circuit Court Marriage License Department accepts applications for home solicitation permits. The cost is $108. Applicants should bring identification, Social Security card, two recent passport-size photos, and have all other licenses required by the city, County, and state. The Sheriff's Office takes the fingerprints. The Florida Department of Law Enforcement checks the information before licenses are issued. The fee is non-refundable.

Child Care Licensing Office

A license is required to run a child care facility in Hillsborough County. There are two types of licenses: a Family Child Care Home license, for an occupied residence where child care is regularly provided for children unrelated to the operator and where payment is received for any of the children; and a Child Care Facility license, for any child care center or child care arrangement for more than five children unrelated to the operator, which receives a payment, fee or grant for any of the children receiving care.
