Disabled Community

The disabled community includes those who are vision-impaired, deaf or hard of hearing, developmentally disabled, or those who need assistance with daily life activities. Many of these Hillsborough County residents should submit a Special Needs Application for special assistance or transportation during an emergency, and to evacuate to one of Hillsborough County's Special Needs Shelters (keep link). A Special Needs Application can also be completed via telephone by calling Hillsborough's Infoline at 813-272-5900. Service animals are accepted at all Special Needs and Red Cross Shelters.

Captioning is provided for all HTV22 emergency information for those who are deaf or hard of hearing. HTV22 is Hillsborough County government’s television station seen on cable channel 22. Those who are deaf or hard of hearing can also subscribe to the E-News Service to receive e-mail information directly from Hillsborough County during an emergency. Hillsborough County's "Have A Plan, Know Your Plan" publications are also available in large type for those who are visually impaired.
