Flooding Preparedness
 
Before
  • Find out if you live in a flood prone area. Call ( 813 ) 272-6900.
  • Find out if your property is above or below the flood stage water level and learn about the history of flooding for your region.
  • Find out how to prepare for a flood by calling ( 813 ) 272-6900.
  • Obtain a copy of the Hillsborough County flood evacuation plan and shelter locations. To get a copy, call Hillsborough County at ( 813 ) 272-6900.
  • If you live in a frequently flooded area:
    • Stockpile emergency building materials.
      • Plywood, plastic sheeting, lumber, nails, hammer, saw, pry bar, shovels, sandbags or foam / silicon sealant for doors & windows.
    • Plan and practice your evacuation routes.
    • Know where the shelters are.
    • If possible, plan to stay with a family or friend who lives outside of the evacuation areas.
    • Have a contact person outside of the evacuation area that you can tell where you are evacuating.
    • Know what you need to take to a shelter if you must evacuate.
    • Have a disaster supply kit on hand.
  • Learn about the National Flood Insurance Program. You can contact your insurance agent about flood insurance.
