Workforce development partnerships

Building a workforce that is relevant to the needs of our businesses and consistent with our economic strategy is paramount to our ability to compete in the future. Broad partnership initiatives with educational institutions and community organizations provide innovative training and mentoring programs that support continued economic prosperity for our residents, businesses, and community.

  • CareerSource Tampa Bay
    As Hillsborough County’s delegated agent for the Federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act grant funds in Hillsborough County,
    CareerSource Tampa Bay works directly with employers to find, develop, and keep skilled talent and with residents to identify employment and career development opportunities to achieve economic prosperity. Career centers are located in Tampa, Plant City, and Ruskin;

  • Manufacturing Alliance of Hillsborough County
    In partnership with Hillsborough County Public Schools, Hillsborough Community College, and CareerSource Tampa Bay, manufacturers and manufacturing-related associations, Hillsborough County Economic Development implemented a best-in-class initiative to engage local manufacturers in the process of strengthening the pipeline of employable manufacturing talent.


    Hillsborough County is spending more than $1 million to advance the Manufacturing Alliance of Hillsborough County’s objectives. The money funds new equipment used to teach manufacturing skills, a testing site for welding certifications, student scholarships for industry recognized certifications, and a media campaign that touts the appeal of careers in manufacturing to student residents and their parents.

  • Hillsborough Community College
    One of the nation’s leading two-year institutions in associate degrees awarded,
    Hillsborough Community College (HCC) has hundreds of courses and dozens of programs designed to help students earn a two-year degree or professional certification, or prepare for a university transfer.

    Hillsborough County has also partnered with HCC for Operation Startup, which provides the Veteran start-up community with access to mentoring, educational programs, co-working, early stage business accelerator, events, and myriad networking opportunities.

  • School District of Hillsborough County
    Various
    Career, Technical, and Adult Education programs prepare students of any age with the knowledge and skills needed for a wide range of opportunities in high-skill, high-wage careers, advanced technical training, and industry certifications.

  • Veterans in Agriculture
    A partnership between Hillsborough County Economic Development, Hillsborough County Farm Bureau, Hillsborough County Extension, University of Florida Gulf Coast Research and Education Center, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Farm Credit of Central Florida, and the Mosaic Company assists transitioning veterans by providing meaningful connections to quality civilian career opportunities and training.


    Military Agriculture Tours provide military veterans, reservists, transitioning active duty personnel, and their spouses an opportunity to tour local Hillsborough County agribusinesses and explore career options available in the agriculture industry.
