Help Stock the Pet Resource Center's Safety Net Food Pantry for Pet Owners in Need

Hillsborough County, Fla. (Oct. 28, 2016) - Hillsborough County's Pet Resource Center is ready to kick off the Thanksgiving season by stocking the shelter's Safety Net Food Pantry for pet owners in need. Stop by this month's First Saturday celebration on Nov. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to help give back to the community. For every pet adoption throughout November, a partner of the Pet Resource Center will donate a bag of dog or cat food to the Safety Net Food Pantry.

The Pet Resource Center is the County's animal shelter and The First Place for Pets. It is located at 440 N. Falkenburg Road.

The Pet Resource Center's Safety Net Food Pantry Program provides food for Hillsborough County residents that are going through difficult times and need help feeding their pets. Residents are welcome to donate food to the Safety Net Food Pantry, as well as donate the following items to pets at the shelter: Milk-Bone brand treats, peanut butter, honey, broth, Kong brand toys, and quick-snap collars.

The Pet Resource Center will offer $20 November adoptions for all ready-to-go pets, a deal that includes spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchip with free registration, and Hillsborough County pet license tag (a package valued at $250 to $400).

The Nov. 5 First Saturday Celebration also will feature:

  • refreshments and music
  • special guests, exhibitors, rescue partners, and foster pets ready for adoption
  • free parking and admission

The Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center is often the first place to receive the community's lost and surrendered animals, and the shelter hopes to be the first place adopters come to select a new pet. The facility is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. for adoptions, lost pet searches, low-cost spay/neuter vouchers, and Hillsborough County pet license tags.
