Overview

Interested in learning, seeing, and experiencing your government up close and in action? Backstage Pass is where it’s at! Through Backstage Pass you will become a more informed community leader and can share your knowledge with your neighborhoods, communities, friends, and family.

Eligibility

  • At least 21 years old
  • Work/resident status (must meet ONE of the following three qualifications):
    • Resident of Hillsborough County
    • Own a business in the county
    • Employed full-time in the county
  • Commit to attending a minimum of nine sessions
  • Must adhere to program rules of conduct and attendance requirements

Fees

Backstage Pass is free and all course materials are included.

Benefits

  • Meet county government leaders
  • Learn how to unravel "red tape" and navigate the system for smoother experiences when you need something from the County
  • Establish relationships with department directors and staff
  • Understand the interactions between departments
  • Become familiar with the services the County offers
  • Get a behind-the-scenes look at some of the facilities, such as a water treatment plant, Fire Rescue stations, or the Emergency Operations Center (EOC)

Things To Consider

  • Backstage Pass is designed to help develop community leaders through well-informed and civically engaged residents
  • You can apply at any time, but you may be placed on an enrollment list for future sessions if the program is full or has already started
  • Attendance:
    • At one of the orientation sessions is strongly encouraged
    • For all Backstage Pass sessions is expected
    • If you miss more than three sessions you will be dropped from the program
    • Missing any part of a session is considered a full absence
  • The program adheres to a drug and alcohol free policy during working session hours
  • Dress code for Backstage Pass sessions is business casual, unless otherwise specified

  • Thursday, July 12, 2018
    • 8:30 to 9:30 AM
    • 10:30 to 11:30 AM

  • Thursday, July 19, 2018
    • 8:30 to 9:30 AM
    • 10:30 to 11:30 AM

  • Session 1: September 20, 2018
  • Session 2: October 4, 2018
  • Session 3: October 18, 2018
  • Session 4: November 1, 2018
  • Session 5: November 15, 2018
  • Session 6: November 29, 2018
  • Session 7: December 13, 2018
  • Session 8: January 10, 2019
  • Session 9: January 24, 2019
  • Session 10: February 8, 2019 (Friday session, tentative)
  • Session 11: February 21, 2019
  • Session 12: March 7, 2019

How To

  1. Fill out and submit the application for the Backstage Pass Program including:
    • County Commission district number
    • Any Hillsborough County Board memberships
    • List of any civic, professional, business, social or other organization memberships
    • Business Organization
    • Selected orientation session

What's Next

  1. We will contact you with a registration email, including confirmed orientation date
  2. Program details will be provided at each of the orientation sessions
  3. If we are unable to schedule you for this session, we will add you to the enrollment list for future sessions
