How to Give this Holiday Season

Bring joy to the lives of Hillsborough County residents this year. Here you'll find ways to help children, families, pets, and seniors in need.


Make a child’s holiday happy and bright this year through Hillsborough County Children Services. Children Services is asking for age-appropriate gifts for kids in their care. Click here for a few ideas for gifts.

Residents can also adopt a group of children and share gifts like the following:

  • Educational opportunities like admission to MOSI, museums, the theater or the zoo
  • Leisure activities like admission to skating rinks, grand prix, laser tag, movies, eating out, hosting meals at area restaurants or gift cards
  • Sporting activities: Tickets to athletic events

Those wishing to contribute financially can make checks or money orders payable to: Hillsborough County Children Services BOCC.
Checks and unwrapped gifts can be mailed to: Department of Children Services, 3191 Clay Mangum Lane, Tampa, FL 33618.


Many families in Hillsborough County struggle during the holidays due to other financial obligations. Help those families enjoy the holidays with donations like:

  • Tickets to local attractions (Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, Adventure Island, Florida Aquarium)
  • Movie passes
  • Family portrait packages
  • Store and restaurant gift cards

Donors can bring the unwrapped gifts to Hillsborough County Center lobby by Thursday, Dec. 19, or mail them to one of the Community Resource Center.


Help PRC save the community’s neediest animals by donating items and services to benefit resident shelter animals, pets in foster care, and the Safety Net Program that keeps pets from being turned into the shelter by families in crisis. Here are a few ideas from the Holiday Wish List:

  • New or gently used blankets/towels
  • Quick-snap dog collars (medium, large, XL sizes)
  • Stretch ‘n Scratch cat scratchers
  • Sturdy leashes (4 to 6 foot, no retractables)
  • Cat treats and cat treat dispensers
  • Sturdy dog toys like Kong brand toys
  • Milk Bones brand treats
  • Ping-pong balls and other waterproof toys for cats
  • Dry and canned pet food
  • Peanut butter

Donors can bring the unwrapped gifts to Hillsborough County Center lobby by Thursday, Dec. 19, or deliver them to Pet Resource Center.


There are many seniors in Hillsborough County who struggle during the holiday season. Hillsborough County’s Aging Services is collecting gifts that Hillsborough County staff and volunteers will hand-deliver to caregivers and seniors in need. Here are a few ideas for appropriate gifts:

  • Baby, It's Cold Outside (blankets, slippers, socks, mugs, hot chocolate, etc.)
  • Stay Well (age-appropriate exercise DVDs, elastic exercise bands, small hand weights, etc.)
  • Eat Well (sealed, non-perishable foods, such as granola bars, dried fruit, peanut butter, etc.)
  • Stocking Stuffers (laundry detergent, fabric softener, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrush, hair brush, etc.)

Donors can bring the unwrapped gifts to Hillsborough County Center lobby by Tuesday, Dec. 19, or mail them to one of the Senior Centers.
