Heart Attacks

A heart attack occurs when a blood vessels that supplies the heart muscle with blood is blocked.

Denial is one of the greatest dangers that individuals face when presented with the signs and symptoms of a heart attack. People simply do not want to believe that “it is happening to them.”

Signs and Symptoms of Heart Attack

  • chest pain - can be an uncomfortable pressure, tightness. Patients often feel that they have an upset stomach. Even when antiacids do not work, often individuals continue their denial.
  • AGAIN: there can be pain but an uncomfortable pressure, tightness or feeling of indigestion, heavy squeezing like a weight on the chest may be experienced.
  • The pain or pressure can radiate to arms (especially left arm), neck, and jaw.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Excessive sweating when there is not reason (ie the patient is not active).
  • Pale skin
  • Nausea / vomiting.

Denial is the most dangerous reaction to the signs and symptoms of a heart attack!
