A major concern of all Fire Rescue personnel is the exposure to infectious diseases. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue maintains a state of the art Infectious Disease Program
managed by Training Officer Robert Marschall.
Under this program, Infection Control Officers are available 24/7. Any potential exposures can be immediately followed up with the receiving hospitals. The employees, if applicable,
can be given appropriate drug therapy to counteract the exposure. Also, employees are given the opportunity to become immunized to such diseases as Hepatitis A and Hepatitis B,
and smallpox, influenza, and pneumonia vaccination and DPT.
