Smoke Alarms Truly Save Lives
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a house fire at 7:00 am this morning at 2011 J Street Wimauma. Fire crews found a mobile home heavily involved in fire with heavy black smoke pouring from several windows and doors. The mother, Teresa Mills, was standing outside with her four children. The mother was treated for minor smoke inhalation and released at the scene. All the children were unharmed. The mother stated she was awakened by the sound of two smoke alarms sounding. She ran into the kids's bedroom, where their doors were shut, and got them all out of bed and escaped the house as it was filling with dense black smoke. The worst fire damage was observed in the kitchen area under the sink in the cabinet. The rest of the home received heat and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is listed as undetermined. The smoke alarms did not survive the fire but they did their job. The true hero's were the two $6.00 smoke alarms with the fresh batteries. The Red Cross was called to assist with the families needs. ###
