2-Alarm Structure Fire
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to a structure fire at 2117 Valrico Heights Blvd. in Valrico around 5:30 pm. Upon arrival, crews found heavy flames and smoke coming from the house and immediately requested a second alarm.
The house, a 6000 sq. ft., six bedroom, four bath home was brought under control in about one hour but took crews another hour to mop up and completely extinguish the fire. One adult resident was home at the time of the fire but escaped before firefighters arrived without injuries. The resident said she had returned home approximately one hour earlier. She was alerted by smoke alarms activated in her home. She opened the garage door and found the car engulfed in flames. The fire was caused by the car in the garage. But the investigator did not indicate what had gone wrong with the car causing it to start the fire. One firefighter received minor injuries and was transported to Brandon Hospital. ###
