Fire at East Bay High School
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. - March 5, 2008 What: Fire at East Bay High School This morning, 3:30 a.m., Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to East Bay High School @ 7710 Big Bend Rd. for a general fire alarm. First unit on scene reported smoke in a hallway and several classrooms. A full alarm was dispatched to the scene where it was discovered a kiln had been left on causing the wooden base to burn producing the smoke. Very little damage was caused by the fire but several rooms were filled with smoke. In all approximately 20 classrooms were affected by smoke but only one classroom suffered smoke damage, the room where the kiln was located. With help from Tampa Fire Rescue's Vent Truck, the smoke was cleared although there will be a lingering smell of smoke for some time. The Air Conditioner's filtration system will gradually remove the smell. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue terminated the emergency and turned the school back over to the Principal. ###
