HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. - March 5, 2008 10:29 PM Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a single story wood frame residential home in the area of Manhattan and Waters Av. The call came in around 9:45 p.m. The home had heavy smoke and flames showing on arrival and all of the residents were outside.
The fire started in a bedroom reportedly by a minor child playing with a lighter; the minor child is being treated for minor burns and another child that was asleep in the same bedroom is being treated for smoke inhalation. At this time both children have not been transported. The fire is out and Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel are in a clean up phase. The home suffered significant damage and is uninhabitable according to those on scene. The family has refused assistance from Red Cross stating that they can stay with relatives. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has a single fire alarm on scene consisting of three engines, one ladder, two rescue cars, a battalion chief, and an air truck; 18 HCFR personnel are working at this fire. An investigator has been requested due to the nature of the fire. There were no injuries to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel. ###
