Apartment Fire Destroys 5 and Damages 15 Others
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. - May 3, 2008 7:06 PM Second Alarm Structure Fire Hillsborough County Fire Rescue was on the scene of a second alarm structure fire at 6910 Castlegate Dr in the Royal Park Apartments located close to King High School. The first arriving engine found fire coming from an apartment window on the third floor. There are 24 apartments in this building, 14 of which were occupied at the time of this fire according to Royal Park Apartment management. One resident was transported by ambulance for non life threatening injuries and one child was treated and released to her family on the scene. All of the other fourteen families escaped without injury. There were no injuries to firefighters. There were twelve Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units, two City of Tampa Fire Rescue units, and one Temple Terrace unit on scene. Approximately 40 firefighters battled the fire. The fire traveled from the bedroom in the apartment of origin into a common attic and spread to an additional four apartments on the third floor. In all, five were damaged by fire and another 15 suffered smoke and water damage. All of the 14 families will be displaced. The American Red Cross was notified and Royal Park Apartments management stated that the families will be placed in a hotel.
Cause is under investigation by the State Fire Marshall's office. Determination and damages will be released at a later time.
