Three Alarm Warehouse Fire
HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. - May 1, 2008 6:00 PM 3 -Alarm Fire Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units are arriving on scene at a warehouse fire at Hillsborough Ave. and 56th Street at 3:50 p.m. First units reported heavy smoke throughout the 150,000 square foot building formerly known as Bag-More and now a multiple business warehouse. A 2nd alarm was dispatched and eventually a 3rd alarm with mutual aid units from Tampa Fire Rescue and Temple Terrace Fire Department. A total of 23 units and 45 firefighters responded to the scene. Although the bulk of the fire has been extinguished, crews expect to remain on scene for several hours removing burning wooden pallets, mattresses, and building insulation that was warehoused in the building. Hillsborough Ave. westbound lane remains closed between 56th and 52nd Streets as long as necessary to ensure firefighters safety but will be reopened as soon as possible. The cause of the fire is not know but is under investigation by the Hillsborough County Fire Marshal's Office. No injuries were reported. ###
