Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to 15600 Gardenside LN. in Carrollwood around 11:00 a.m. to a single story residence with heavy flames and smoke coming from one end of the house. The first engine company entered the front door and stopped the fire from progressing through the rest of the house. An off duty Hillsborough County firefighter saw the smoke and arrived ahead of the engine companies. He forced entry in the front door checking for people inside. He later took an additional line off the first engine and extinguished the fire on the outside of the house while other crews were inside fighting the fire. The only person home at the time of the fire was safely outside. A family cat died in the fire. No firefighters were injured. Thirteen units and 30 firefighters responded to the scene. The fire was extinguished in 30 minutes. The cause of the fire is under investigation. Damage estimates were set at $110,000. ###
