Two-Alarm Apartment Fire
Two-Alarm Apartment Fire Hillsborough County Fire Rescue units responded to a three-unit apartment building at 800 Sundial Loop near Paul Buchman Highway around 4:00 a.m. First unit on scene (Plant City Fire and Rescue) reported the building had heavy flames and smoke showing. A second alarm was immediately requested with mutual aid from Plant City and Polk County Fire Departments. A total of 15 units and 38 firefighters took nearly 1 hour to completely extinguish the fire. Firefighting efforts were temporarily hampered by energized downed power lines blocking crew's access to as portion of the building. Two residents were home at the time of the fire. One Resident escaped with only a minor injury. Red Cross was contacted for assistance. Initial damage estimates were valued over $100,000. The exact cause is still under investigation but it appears to be accidental.
