Storm Damage and Fires
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, FL. - June 17, 2009 What: Storm Damage and House Fires When: 1800hrs. through 2150 hrs Since 1800 hrs this evening Hillsborough County Fire Rescue has responded to twelve lightning strike events that have resulted in reports of building, transformer or tree fires. Five structure fires (Minor damage to all) Four tree fires Two trees down on home (see below) Two pole fires One transformer fire which caused a grass fire A large oak tree split and fell in on a home at 421 Deborah Lane, Brandon. One home was damaged with a large limb through the roof. An adjoining home has power lines on top of the home which has prevented a complete inspection by HCFR pending TECO de-energizing. HCFR remains on-scene awaiting TECO in order to complete a damage assessment. Occupants have been accounted for and no injuries are reported. The American Red Cross has been requested to assist with re-location of seven persons. A second tree has fallen on a home at 12806 Cattail Shore Lane in Riverview. A forty foot pine tree is reportedly on top of a home at that location. No fire or injuries reported. Minor damage to the home has occurred. No relocation of residents necessary.
