- Teaching environmentally-friendly practices to children in County’s Head Start program as a result of two grants received, a 2008-2009 SWFWMD Splash mini-grant and a 2008-2011 Head Start Innovation and Improvement Grant.
- Includes creating sustainable gardens and natural green spaces on playgrounds of Centers using Florida-friendly landscaping practices, teaching water conservation techniques to children, and creating worm composting bins to teach children about natural fertilizer.
- Also forming Recycling Clubs where children and parents will collect recyclables and take a field trip to local recycling center to learn about recycling. Children will re-purpose many of the recycled materials in creative art projects.
