Children's Services

Teaching environmentally-friendly practices to children in County’s Head Start program as a result of two grants received, a 2008-2009 SWFWMD Splash mini-grant and a 2008-2011 Head Start Innovation and Improvement Grant.
Includes creating sustainable gardens and natural green spaces on playgrounds of Centers using Florida-friendly landscaping practices, teaching water conservation techniques to children, and creating worm composting bins to teach children about natural fertilizer.
Also forming Recycling Clubs where children and parents will collect recyclables and take a field trip to local recycling center to learn about recycling. Children will re-purpose many of the recycled materials in creative art projects.
