Volunteer Opportunities
 

Hillsborough County Code Enforcement’s volunteer opportunities allow residents and community organizations to work together with County personnel to help improve and preserve the health, safety and general welfare of our community.

Community Code Volunteers

Community Code Volunteers assist in the removal of illegally placed signs and other enforcement efforts.  All volunteer must attend an orientation session and successfully complete training provided by the by Code Enforcement department.

Work schedules are flexible and based upon your availability. No specific job experience is required and participants will be trained prior to assuming any duties.  Generally, you will be assigned to work out in the field with a partner.

Volunteer Organizations

As a volunteer organization, your main role will be to assist citizens with various Code Enforcement property maintenance issues.

Some code enforcement cases involve residents who are unable to change or improve their situation due to physical, monetary and other hardships.  Through this initiative, the Code Enforcement department wants to serve as a link between citizen with code enforcement violations and volunteer organizations.  The extent of the assistance depends on each volunteer’s resources and could include:

  • Cutting and clearing of overgrown property.
  • Removing debris, household items or other accumulations.
  • Maintenance work of structures including the repairs of but not limited to floors, walls, roofs, windows, etc.
  • Painting of structures.
  • Other conditions that can be corrected by qualified people in a safe manner.


Organizations wishing to volunteer must register and attend a volunteer session where they can learn more about the County and available opportunities. In addition, each person who will participate in a project must complete a Volunteer in Public Service (VIPs) Application.
