Housing Rehabilitation Programs
 

The Rehabilitation Program assists families repair their homes. It is not a remodeling program, but it will make deferred or low interest loans to income qualified homeowners to correct items that do not meet the Minimum Housing Standards of Hillsborough County. Homes must be located in Hillsborough County, outside the City of Tampa. It must be a single-family home that you own and live in.

The Barrier Removal Program helps individuals with disabilities to make their units more easily accessible through wheelchair ramps, door widening, handicap bars and bathroom remodeling. Funding is provided through a Grant. This Program is also available for rental units with owner approval.

The Immediate Need Program assists mobile home owners whose units are located in mobile home parks with home repairs for which there is no other program available. In general, the Program is limited to a “one time only” approval of expenditures, however, additional assistance may be provided for dire emergencies, a life-threatening situation, or safety of the family. Funding for this Program is also a Grant.

The Elderly and Disabled Assistance Program helps our elderly citizens (62 or older) and disabled homeowners with emergency repairs like roofing, electrical and plumbing. This Program is also a Grant.

Homeowners choose the contractor to bid on the construction specifications provided by the County, and monitor the work on their home with assistance from County staff as needed.

An application for any of these Programs can be obtained from the County upon request.
