Hillsborough County Head Start measures the progress of children from the time they enter as infants until the time they transition into kindergarten. We have adopted the Galileo Assessment Technology as our instrument.
Used by many Head Start and pre-school programs throughout the nation, Galileo allows teachers to measure and provide a comprehensive view of each child’s growth in all eight of the school readiness domains: approaches to learning, creative arts, early math, fine & gross motor, language and literacy, nature & science, physical health, and social/emotional development.
The Galileo scales are based on the Head Start Outcomes Framework and also correspond to the domains established in the Florida Sunshine State Standards.

Hillsborough County Head Start children’s developmental summary scores, at the end of the school year, were between 17 and 23 points higher than the year before in all eight domains.
