What is Transportation for Economic Development?

Effectively delivering the necessary services Hillsborough County residents require can be challenging, given the complexity of many services. Providing these services is directly related to the establishment of new enterprise and growth, since important revenue streams for municipal government are property and sales taxes.  The ability of the County to respond to community need is directly dependent upon the strength of the local economy. This is the paradox facing Hillsborough County: the need to secure, foster, and grow an economy that will sustain or lead to an improved standard of living through creative, full-time work generating sustainable living wages, while concurrently dealing with the increase in the level of resources needed to support the public.

Facing the Challenges

The TED Policy Leadership Group, comprised of county and city elected officials, is engaged in a series of meetings to hear from transportation and economic development experts about important transportation issues and discuss county transportation needs intended to build a strong environment to enhance our ability to attract new jobs to Hillsborough County.  Concurrently, a series of public engagement meetings are being held intended to encourage and receive feedback and input from those most closely affected by public transportation issues. At these meetings we have heard from business owners, corporate executives, anchor institutions, people who use public transit for their work commute, and the general public.
