Volunteer Roles

Unpaid volunteers enjoy the many benefits of working with animals and making lifelong friendships. Volunteers contribute immensely to shelter operations: 

  • Help adopters with Meet and Greets 
  • Assist in veterinary services areas
  • Clean kennels and cages
  • Enrich dogs in custody during cruelty investigations
  • Escort adopters in kennel areas        
  • Launder and stack kennel bedding
  • Train dogs
  • Take digital photos of animals for the website
  • Foster animals at home
  • Walk and socialize fearful animals
  • Wash and groom animals

Current Volunteers

lunteer Orientation
Volunteer orientations are held twice a month, please Complete the online volunteer application. 

Email  to reserve your space at the next orientation session:

  • Saturday, February, 1st  - 9 AM at Animal Services
  • Thursday, February 20th -  6 PM at Animal Services

Junior volunteers are accepted on a limited basis, must be at least 15 years old, and must be accompanied by a parent during orientation. A minimum number of hours per month is preferred, and some work areas require additional training classes for safety in animal handling. 

Students may also obtain Florida Bright Futures hours by volunteering in our shelter's Transition-Foster program.  Please call to set up an appointment and help save the life of a helpless animal by providing satellite sheltering in your home.
