The Public Works Department is responsible for providing safe and efficient transportation systems, stormwater systems, mosquito control, and solid waste management for the residents of unincorporated Hillsborough County.

Public Works' Services Include:

  • Oversight of all major County planning, engineering design, and construction projects that include roads, bridges, intersections, sidewalks, storm water, and trails

  • Maintenance of County rights of way and stormwater drainage systems
  • Minor construction projects, pothole repair, roadway shoulder maintenance, roadside ditch and canal cleaning, and tree trimming

  • Mosquito control to include outreach education, and major canals aquatic herbicide program

  • Inspection, repair, and maintenance of the County's 250 bridges  

  • Installation, operation of maintenance, and repair of traffic control devices, including traffic signals/controllers, pavement markings, school zone signalization, and street signs

  • Stormwater water quality and education efforts, including Adopt-A-Pond and the Lake Management Program

  • Natural Hazard Planning efforts that seek to reduce the impacts of flooding and other natural hazards
  • Collection, transportation and disposal of solid waste
