Athletics - Volunteer Training
The Athletics Youth Sports Section provides the mandatory training required for all volunteers and coaches. From Hillsborough County's 58 partnered programs to the user-groups renting fields and facilities, requirements for volunteers are the same across the board. Florida requires youth sports volunteers to pass background checks. Athletes, parents and coaches must also comply with Florida's new law regarding concussions and relates sports injuries; all volunteers must take a mandatory coach's training class.

Mandatory volunteer training classes are given in partnership with the University of South Florida's Sports Medicine and Athletic Related Trauma Institute and the National Alliance for Youth Sports. All training classes are given free of charge.

Classes include but are not limited to: Concussion and Head-Related Sports Injuries; CPR/First Aid; Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Training; Emergency Action Plans; Good Sportsmanship; Sexual Predators, Bullying in Youth Sports; Reasons We Coach; and Building a Winning Season.

The Concussion and Head-Related Sports Injuries course complies with Florida Statutes Section 943.0438(2) (e); (f); and (g). It s provided in partnership with the University of South Florida's Department of Orthopedics and Sports Medicine and the Sports Medicine and Athletic Related Trauma Institute (SMART). The class is presented by Dr. Barbara Morris, Director of the SMART Institute.

Volunteers interested in attending free Hillsborough County volunteer training classes are asked to reserve space since class size is limited.
