Tropicana Public Speaking
What is 4-H Tropicana?
4-H Tropicana is a school curriculum in public speaking. The program is a partnership with Tropicana Inc., Hillsborough County Extension 4-H. This partnership started in 1969. Our first contest was held at the Plant City Holiday Inn with 50 students participating. in 2010 we had 92 schools and 16,000 students!

The program is open to public schools, private schools, and home school cooperatives and is offered to elementary students in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. Schools register their classes in September and October. Materials are sent to the assistant vice principles which include curriculum guides and contest information.

Students write and deliver a public speech between 2-3 minutes in length on any topic. They compete within the classroom and as a school. Then the schools divisions compete against each other in area contests (minimum number required for area contests) in April and May. The top two winners in the area contests then compete in the district finals in May.

Call Brent Broaddus (744-5519 x 54132) or Brandi Yancy (744-5519 x 54116) for more information on this program.
