Commission on the Status of Women
Members
There are 13 members on the Commission. Each of the seven County Commissioners appoints one individual and the Board of Directors of the following organizations shall each provide a nomination to the Board of County Commissioners:
- Hispanic Professional Women's Association, Inc.
- League of Women Voters
- National Council of Negro Women
- Tampa Chamber of Commerce
- The Centre
- The Spring of Tampa Bay
Terms
Each term for a member on the commission shall be four years and staggered initially.
Purpose
This Commission was created to study and make recommendations to the Board of County Commissioners, the County administration, the community, and all agencies and persons in Hillsborough County on issues pertaining to the status of women, including: discrimination, employment, education, day care, and health care. These recommendations are presented as comprehensive reports to the Board and distributed to the public and interested parties.
Authority
The Hillsborough County Board of County Commissioner's (BOCC) created the Hillsborough Commission on the Status of Women (the COSW) on April 16, 2003 (
Resolution No. R03-074 ), and its membership structure was amended on October 20, 2004 (
Resolution R04-174 ) and further amended on March 21, 2007 (
Resolution No. R07-059 ).
