Neighborhood Relations

Neighborhood Relations works with community groups, County departments and other organizations to build partnerships that improve, enhance, and preserve the quality of life in Hillsborough County neighborhoods.

  • Provides information about County government and related subjects to neighborhood associations.
  • Assists citizens and groups in developing neighborhood associations.
  • Provides training and technical assistance to neighborhoods.
  • Provides mini-grants to neighborhood organizations (including low volume drip irrigation, tree and cleanup grants).
  • Conducts outreach for community based planning initiatives.
  • Sponsors Neighborhood Awards Programs.
  • Organizes the County’s Annual Neighborhoods Conference and assists in the coordination and planning of the State Neighborhoods Conference.
  • Coordinates Government Leadership University.

The 11th Annual Neighborhoods Conference held on March 15, 2014 was a success! More than 360 people attended and many communities were recognized during the Annual Neighborhood Recognition Awards Luncheon. Go here to see a list of this year's winners. 


Looking for a Few Good Citizens to Serve
 
Advisory groups play an essential role in local government, allowing citizen participation to promote County responsiveness. Commissioners use recommendations from the County's boards, councils, committees, and advisory groups in making policy decisions.

New Child Safety Grant 
The Children’s Board of Hillsborough County and the Hillsborough County Department of Neighborhood Relations are excited to be working together to bring small grants to neighborhoods willing to host community events to raise awareness of child safety. Preventable injuries and deaths are by definition, preventable, and in many cases, just a few simple steps can save a life. 

Fifteen $1,000.00 grants are available to neighborhoods registered with Hillsborough County Neighborhood Relations that is willing to "HOST" an educational workshop to raise awareness of child safety. Preventable injuries and deaths are by definition, preventable, and in many cases, just a few simple steps can save a life. 

St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital Child Advocacy Center has abundant information on water safety, mobile medical clinic access, car safety seats, and other injury prevention products.

The Healthy Start Coalition of Hillsborough County also has many successful, family friendly programs and projects ranging from Safe Baby and Safe Baby Plus to the Children’s Board Family Resource Centers.
