Section Descriptions
 

9-1-1 Administration

Administers and maintains the County's emergency telephone services infrastructure, or 9-1-1; the County's uniform building numbering system; and develops and monitors the County's interlocal agreements for all municipal and enclave addressing responsibilities.


Administration and Financial Management

These sections provide the administrative functions that support the entire department (budgeting, personnel coordination, procurement, administration, contracts management, etc.).


Distributed Processing

The Distributed Processing team is directly involved in the planning, implementation and operations of application development and/or acquisitions.

Services include:

  • Assistance with defining needs and developing individual and County-wide automation plans to satisfy those needs
  • Assistance with defining software requirements
  • Assistance with conducting market searches for application software
  • Development of applications
  • Development of technical specifications for procurement
  • Maintenance of in-house developed applications
  • Guidance in the re-engineering processes
  • Research, design, support, and enhancement of the County's official Web site and other Web technology including the County Intranet

Geographic Information Systems

GIS provides technical work-planning, designing, and evaluation of hardware and technical support for GIS resources. This section leads the County's strategic planning process for GIS projects County-wide.


Hardware / Software Services

This section is responsible for asset management, hardware and software procurement and inventory.


Operational Services

Operational Services is responsible for the research, evaluation, implementation, maintenance, administration, and support of:

  • Network / Application Servers and Minicomputer Systems.
  • Internet Access and Web-based technologies/Infrastructure.
  • Desktop, Laptop, and Mobile Computing Equipment.
  • Local and Wide Area Data Communications Equipment, and Circuits.
  • Security-related SW/HW Infrastructure
  • Data Center Facilities Infrastructure

Planning and Technical Assessment

This section is charged with administering the Technology Strategic Automation Process for the Board of County Commissioners' (BOCC) departments, focusing its priorities on those projects that address the BOCC goals and objectives.

Additionally, this section serves as the Project Management Office for all ITS projects.


Security

The role of the Security team is to build comprehensive, inter-operable standards-based information security programs, and to align the organizations' information security goals with its operational practices.


Technical Support

Technical Support provides the initial point of contact to report/resolve problems and issues associated with computer hardware, software, and telecommunications infrastructure.


Technology

Responsible for creating the Hillsborough County technology vision and aligning it with the County's business strategy, in addition to researching, developing and implementing technology solutions County-wide.


Telecommunications

Telecommunications is responsible for the design, procurement, support, and relocation of voice and data communications, as well as updates for Verizon and Suncom directories. Additionally, this section is responsible for designing, maintaining, and enhancing the wide area and local area networks.
