Legislators In The Community 08
Is She Looking for Answers?
Actually, Rep. Betty Reed attended the 2008 EPC Legislative Environmental Tour on December 4 and was viewing progress being made at the Mosaic Coastal Education Center where EPC staff gave a presentaiton on habitat restoration.

Rep. Reed Chats with Dr. Rick Garrity
The EPC Tour also included a "meet and greet," and Rep. Reed made a point of chatting with Dr. Rick Garrity, Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Commission.

HCC Hosts the Legislative Delegation
Hillsborough Community College hosted the Delegation's public hearing as well as Roundtables at the John R. Trinkle Center on its Plant City campus in early December. On the left is Delegation vice chair, Sen. Victor Crist, and, on the right, its chair, Rep. Rich Glorioso.
Rep. Weatherford Elected Chair
Rep. Will Weatherford will serve as the Delegation chair through 2009. He's a Pasco County native and serves a portion of Hillsborough as the representative from House District 61.
Rep. Scionti Presents on a Local Bill
Rep. Michael Scionti is the primary House sponsor on both of Hillsborough's local bills for the 2009 session; one was requested by the City of Tampa and the other by the Hillsborough County Public Transportation Commission. A local bill affects only a limited geographic area.
Rep. Rouson Joins the Hillsborough Delegation
Elected last spring, Rep. Darryl Rouson didn't attend his first Hillsborough Delegation meeting until December. He was elected in a special election when Rep. Frank Peterman was appointed to head the FL Department of Juvenile Justice; Rep. Rouson was re-elected to a full term in the fall.

Listening to Testimony
In the foreground is Rep. Faye Culp with Rep. Kevin Ambler to her right and Sen. Charlie Justice seen just behind Rep. Ambler. On the far left are Rosalie Smith, formerly with Sen. Arthenia Joyner and now with the Delegation's central office, and Sen. Joyner.
Plotting A Strategy
Rep. Michael Scionti and Rep. Faye Culp demonstrate that bipartisan conferencing can work for the greater good of the community they serve. After all, the Delegation's motto is "Working together today to build a better Florida tomorrow."
Senator Victor Crist Headed for the Home Stretch
Sen. Crist has become the "Dean of the Hillsborough Legislative Delegation" as he serves the last two years of his Senate term (the 2009 and 2010 legislative sessions). He is expected to serve as the Delegation's chair in 2010.
The Speaker Pro Tem Designee
Rep. Ron Reagan is expected to be elected Speaker Pro Tem when the Legislature convenes its 2009 Session on March 3. In the background is his legislative assistant, Annalee Morris.
Double "Js" and Double "Ds"
Senator Arthenia Joyner and Sen. Charlie Justice, both Democrats, listened to the various presentations that were made throughout the day.
Roundtables
Each year, the Delegation invites all elected officials to sit "in Roundtable" with them to discuss their legislative needs. Sheriff David Gee makes his presentation before they enter the conversation mode as they reach to help keep the heart of each agency beating strongly.
The Clerk of the Court
Clerk of the Court Pat Frank and her deputy, Dan Klein, also participated in the Roundtables talks.
The Courts Look for Help
Chief Judge Manual Menendez is always strong advocate for the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. With him was Court Administrator Michael Bridenbach.
The State Attorney Spoke on Behalf of His Operation/Staff
State Attorney Mark Ober made an emotional plea to maintain the integrity of his office as one of the primary components in the continuum of the court system. He was accompanied by his Chief of Staff, Dick Donohoe.
Public Defender Julianne Holt
The Public Defender is always eloquent in making known the needs of her office as yet another of the "necessaries" to keep the criminal justice system moving forward.
Commissioner Sharpe Sharp for the BOCC Presentation
Also attending on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners were Commissioners Jim Norman, Al Higginbotham, and Kevin Beckner along with County Administrator Pat Bean.
Speaking of Former Legislative Assistants...
Jenna Labadie, formerly with Rep. Kevin Ambler, spoke on behalf of the FL Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Cuttler and McKee
Cory Cuttler, left, was most recently with Rep. Rich Glorioso, but started her legislative career with former Sen. Don Sullivan (from across the pond); she is now with the Southwest Florida Water Management District (and that would be SWFWMD, not "Swiftmud" as that paper from across the pond has come to believe!). On the right is Carol McKee who has been with Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute since it was first committed to paper in Tallahassee in the early 1980s; she was aide to former Speaker Lee Moffitt.
County Officers
On the left is Hillsborough County Public Affairs Officer Edith Stewart (she started legislatively with former Rep. Mary Figg) and, on the right, Brandon Wagner, Intergovernmental Relations Manager (formerly with Sen. Victor Crist). Do you suppose they were madly texting the members of the BOCC when they were making their presentation to the assembled Legislators?
At Another Venue
Opening Day Luncheon at the Florida State Fair always features naming the Woman of the Year in Agriculture (for 2008, Patsy Nathe from our neighboring Pasco County). Candace Hundley and Rosalie Smith (both on the right) attended on behalf of the Legislative Delegation and were delighted to find themselves seated at the same table with three former winners: Vina Jean Banks, Hillsborough, 1999; Marlene Strickland (Sarasota); and Norma Stokes (Highlands) who was also there with her husband, Highlands County Commissioner Edgar Stokes.
Two Retirees and a WannaBe
Carol Antrim, retired from Senator Crist's office, Candace Hundley, executive director of the Hillsborough Legislative Delegation, and Marie Martinez, retired from the Delegation office, recently met on Sunday for lunch and to catch up on families and the ever-changing faces of the workforce. And with that, closure on Album 8!
