Medical Examiner Department 11025 N. 46th St. Tampa, FL 33617 Administration Telephone: 914-4500 Fax: 914-4594 Death Investigation Telephone: 914-4567 This department determines the cause and manner of death for sudden, suspicious, violent, and unexpected deaths occurring within the county. Death investigations usually include autopsies, which are done according to Florida law. The medical examiners, who are physicians specializing in forensic pathology, also provide opinion testimony in court cases. Autopsy reports are available from the department, and death certificates completed by medical examiners are available from the Vital Records section of the State Health Department. The department also provides indigent burial and cremation services for unclaimed bodies.
