The South County Recreational Corridor Plan was approved by the Board of County Commissioners on March 7, 2007. Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation
and Conservation Department, with assistance from the consulting firm WilsonMiller, developed the plan for recreational use of property in southern Hillsborough County.
The plan focuses on lands associated with two recreational corridors identified in the 1995 Hillsborough Greenways Master Plan. The primary focus area is associated
with the Souty Coast Greenway, and the secondary focus area is associated with the Cross County Greenway.
The recreational corridor plan is a detailed conceptual plan for utilizing lands in the corridor focus areas for recreational purposes and takes a comprehensive look at regional
needs. As part of data collection, a recreational user preference phone survey was conducted in the summer of 2006 in south county to ascertain user preferences regarding recreational
activities.
Public Participation
 The
Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department held two public meetings in south
county
to involve residents in the planning process.
 The first public meeting was held July 13, 2006 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm at SouthShore Regional
Services Center in Ruskin. At the July meeting, participants viewed and discussed maps showing opportunities and constraints in the primary and secondary corridor focus areas.
Participants were also asked to provide input regarding the types of recreational opportunities desired.
The second meeting was held a November 16, 2006 from 6:30pm - 8:30pm
at Gardenville Recreation Center in Gibsonton. At the second public
meeting, the survey results were presented as well as proposed concepts
for recreational use within the primary and secondary corridors. Attendees
discuss the proposals and provided written comments. Feedback
received from the second meeting was used to help finalize the plan for presentation
to the Board of County Commissioners.
