Residential Swimming Pool Inspections

With the transfer of inspection responsibilities for swimming pools to the SPECIALTY INSPECTIONS TEAM, the following inspections format is adopted to allow the optimum use of these inspectors unique ability to perform inspections on multiple trades.

The number of inspections on RESIDENTIAL SWIMMING POOLS will be limited to three (3) and will be as follows:

FIRST POOL INSPECTION: (640-650) This inspection will be after the pool area has been excavated, re-bar installed, the main drain installed and made ready for inspection (Plug the drain and fill the system with water to 5'ft. above grade). A call into the IVRS SYSTEM under the numbers above will schedule these inspection.

SECOND POOL INSPECTION: (601-665-299-697). This inspection will be performed prior to pouring the top slab, but after all electrical equipment is installed, connected, and the bonding completed. Additionally, all plumbing must be completed and readied for inspection. (All piping shall be plugged and pressurized to 25 lbs.) A call in to the IVRS SYSTEM under the numbers above will schedule these inspections. (For unoccupied homes, installation of pumps, filters, and heaters may be delayed until final inspection.)

FINAL POOL INSPECTION: (698-605) This inspection shall be done after the entire pool package is completed, the pool barrier is in place, required fences, screened enclosures if any, are completed and ready for inspection, and the pool is filled with water. A call in to the IVRS SYSTEM under the numbers above will schedule these inspections.

NOTE: State law requires installation of a pool barrier and it must be in place prior to filling the pool.

NOTE: If any of the pool barrier requirements is to be met through the installation of a screen enclosure, footer must be constructed around the perimeter of the deck. The inspection request of the footing and steel will be required for a call in to the IVRS SYSTEM at the same time as the second pool inspections. To expedite this inspection we are adding the permit letters of (PAL) POOL ALUMINUM ENCLOSURES for screen enclosure permits. The call in to the IVRS SYSTEM will be (602 for an enclosure footer), and (604 for an enclosure final).

NOTE: If a pool retaining wall is required, a footer inspection is necessary (606 for pool retaining wall footer, 607 for pool retaining wall lintel steel, 608 for pool retaining wall final). Erosion control precautions should be made as needed.
