Hillsborough County limits the movement of "thru-trucks" to designated routes. Single unit trucks with three or more axles and non-passenger combination vehicles must travel on designated truck routes between their origin and destination to the extent possible and must enter and exit Hillsborough County on a designated truck route.
History
On October 2, 2002, the Board of County Commissioners decided to re-examine the Hillsborough County Truck Route Plan to see if recent changes in the county-such as growth or residential areas around truck routes-warrant changes to the plan.
The Truck Route Plan was last updated by Resolution R05-022 on January 20, 2005.
Prior to the adoption of Resolution R05-022, the Transportation Division of the Planning & Growth Management Department, at the direction of the County Commission, conducted a very comprehensive study of the Plan in affect at the time. The study lasted for almost the entire year of 2004. It included four public neighborhood meetings where public input was received and thirteen meetings of the Truck Route Plan Technical Committee (TRP-TC) where additional public input was received.
The Truck Route Plan was reviewed again in 2008 and no further changes were made to the plan. The County Commission agreed to change the review requirement for the Resolution from every three years to whenever it felt a review was needed in the future.
