Historic Preservation Challenge Grant News
In December, 2011 the County adopted the "Historic Preservation Challenge Grant Program" to promote historic preservation, heritage tourism and related economic development within Hillsborough County (for both incorporated and unincorporated areas). Available grant funds will be awarded to selected applicants on a minimum of one-to-one (1:1) matching basis, not to exceed an award of more than $250,000 per applicant, per project in any county budget year.
The second round for the Historic Preservation Challenge Grant application deadline is July 31, 2012, and is available online (go to the application link below).
Check back to this website periodically for updates on the application materials and information on the upcoming June, 2012, Historic Preservation Challenge Grant Workshop.

| Additional Incentives |
| |
|
National, state, and local governments offer an array of incentives to preserve historic Landmarks. These include a 20% federal income tax credit for rehabilitation of the property, local
property tax exemptions for the increased value of the structure, and state and local grants. Each of these incentives has different provisions in order to qualify. In general, all incentives should be
applied for after the property is made a historic Landmark, and before the property owner begins rehabilitation.
Additionally, Landmark properties may be eligible for Special Public Interest zoning that encourages uses such as a bed & breakfast, antique shop, book store, or café in residential areas.
For more information on each of these programs, please contact the Historic Preservation Program office or refer to the links below:
