Bob Gordon has been a resident of Hillsborough County since 1974. In 2003, he became the
director of the Public Works Department. Bob began his career with Hillsborough County in
1986 as the manager of the Drainage Section of the Engineering Department. During his
tenure with Hillsborough County, he also served as the county engineer/director of the
Engineering Division, a transportation project manager, manager of the Projects Management
Section, and director of the Capital Projects Department. During his career with
Hillsborough County, Bob has been responsible for managing water, wastewater, stormwater,
transportation, and facilities construction programs.
Bob received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a specialization in water
resources from the University of South Florida in 1980. Upon graduating from USF, he served for
four years as an engineer with the Southwest Florida Water Management District involved in various
aspects of subsurface and surface water regulation and analysis. He subsequently took a position
with a private engineering firm as the chief drainage engineer performing master drainage plans
for large residential and commercial developments. He has been a registered professional
engineer in the state of Florida since 1985.
