The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) approved the original Intersections
Master Plan in October 2002 and approved the updated Intersections
Master Plan in November 2003. This process was created to more
actively plan for needed intersection improvements. The analysis
undertaken in this program narrowed down the 14,000 plus intersections
in the county to a list of approximately 100, which were judged to
be the highest priority. The Capital Improvement Projects were
selected from this list of intersections, which were prioritized based
on a ratio of the economic benefit to the traveling public divided by
the costs of the improvements.
In general, projects are completed in the order of highest priority;
however, projects are not always scheduled in the exact order of the
benefit/cost ranking due to various reasons of constructability,
feasibility, and coordination with outside agencies such as the
Florida Department of Transportation.
